Our Story
Jon Huckins
FOUNDER
Hi, I’m Jon and it’s good to have you here. I don’t see myself as much of an “expert,” but I do find that a lot of life is about being a pilgrim guide who points to a reality that leads to healing.
That might mean confronting the brokenness in our own stories or in wider society, but often, as we move into the darkness, we discover it has something profound to teach us.
I’ve been a neighborhood pastor and lived, worked, and studied in the Christian justice world for most of my adult life. It has led me to march in NYC after the murder of Eric Garner, stand with our siblings at Standing Rock, guide delegations into the Palestine-Israel conflict, and mobilize support for migrants at the Tijuana/San Diego border. As I did this work to confront society's conflicts, I realized I hadn’t confronted many of the conflicts within myself. If there is anything I’ve learned, it is that…
…the healing of society comes through our individual and collective healing as we confront the conflict and wounds within ourselves.
They are not mutually exclusive but intimately interconnected.
For those of us who were raised in a U.S. evangelicalism that no longer serves us (or our world), we need to do this important healing work as we construct a faith beyond nationalism, Christian celebrity, patriarchy, dualistic worldviews and static theology.
And, we need to do this as a community who models vulnerability, generosity, humility and a willingness to acknowledge when we are wrong.
Journey Home is seeking to create these kinds of healing spaces that form us into a community on the Way.
Ultimately, the journey is back to our hearts. And it is then that we can live lives that create a society where everyone has a home.
I look forward to walking the path with you.
